In the late 1940s, Rosti set out to create the ideal
mixing bowl. After studying existing bowls and
speaking with users, the brief was clear: it had to be
spacious, easy to hold and feature a practical pouring lip.
The task went to Acton Bjørn and Sigvard
Bernadotte’s design studio in Copenhagen. Their
first design combined function, quality and timeless
Scandinavian design – and in 1950, the bowl went
into production.
In 1954, the bowl was named after Princess
Margrethe, later Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
Since then, the collection has grown with new sizes,
colours and practical features, while the iconic
design has remained.
Today, the Margrethe bowl is a Danish design icon,
exhibited in museums around the world and sold in
more than 25 million copies worldwide.
